MUSIC PROMOTION ADVICE
So due to the nature of my business i find myself online a lot, on forums, Facebook, Twitter, you name it.
And there are a lot of things that annoy me and other people about the way some people promote, so thought i'd give out some advice to help artists and producers get more effective results online.
The KEY to marketing is relationship building, this is very much overlooked in todays industry, people just post the same link over and over again, claiming they have the hottest tracks out, when more often than not that is FAR from the reality of it.
Now think on my wavelength for a second, an hour of posting the same link and different walls may get you a few likes, maybe even a share or two, but compare that to 15 minutes of talking to someone who you've never spoken to before getting to know them, telling them what you do, find out what they do, and gently introduce what your trying to promote, this will give them an opportunity to do the same.
Now, you have the starting stages of a relationship with that person, so if you maintain that, periodically, the occasional "whats up bro, any new stuff?" little back and forth then "oh btw i just dropped this, check it out and share it if your feeling it"
That person thinks, this guys cool, he would do the same for me, so i'm going to share it (in most cases) as opposed to spamming him with a generic message containing a link about how your the next big thing which will eventually get you on their block list.
Its about building relationships and alot of them, doing favours for them will earn favours in return, remember not just in the industry but LIFE in general is give and take.
The other side to this is you never know who your talking to until you talk to them, they could have a hook up, a particular friend they could show that has a friend who would be interested in a collab who already has a fanbase etc, you just never know.
Anyway i'm gonna keep this short and build on it as we go along, but hopefully you find this brief article beneficial to your music career.
Stay Bless, From Ess.
