This is almost a summary post to my previous articles, incorporating what i've said before but with some new stuff added in and expanded upon.
SO, if you've followed my advice so far you've ditched your unprofessionalism, you've invested in yourself, you've got your music made professionally, your artwork is on point and your beats are paid for.
Whats the next step? PLEASE dont do what everybody does and spam it constantly, my pet peeve which i know is ALWAYS going to fail is to comment it on other peoples posts, me personally i 100% don't press play and blacklist the person from anything i'm associated with.
No, your next step is to get in touch with the people you would have previously built a relationship with following my advice and let them know, ease it into the conversation, and when you do let them know you want as many people to hear it as possible, fingers crossed that person will share it for you.
DESPERATION is a BRAND KILLER, you want to let he music speak for itself as far as possible, when you oversell you overkill, do you see the big names out there begging people to listen to stuff? NO, they have class and dignity, where do they get their views from? which leads to my point.
Investing in promotion.
What you need to be doing is investing in things like banner ads, PR companies, A&Rs, these resources and institutions are there for a reason and they DO work, to me whether or not they are is unknown but artists these days smell of BROKE, maybe not the case but if you refuse to invest in yourself and bring out stuff that is poorly made and poorly promoted well...put it this way, if people think you're not taking your music seriously, why should they?
Never stop building your fanbase, building relationships is key and i will keep banging on about that until i'm blue in the face BUILD RELATIONSHIPS!
Think of ingenious ways to get people on side, could be free stuff, competitions, customised merchandise, anything that sets you apart from what everybody else is doing, hit people with something theyre not used to, stop hittin them in their comfort zones, it wont inspire them.
I'm gonna wrap it up there, but as always i'll expand as we go along.
Stay Bless, From Ess.
